Event Details

Special New years Eve walk! Before you go out to celebrate going forward into 2020, join us for this lovely walk and celebrate all you have achieved in 2019. This is one of our most popular walks, so come and see what it’s all about. We will include a small ceremony to celebrate 2019 and moving forward into 2020!

Guided by Toby we begin our walk in the valley near San Mateu, where most of the grapes are produced for making wine on the island. We leave the valley floor, heading into the forest. Enjoying the scented and shady pines, we pass olive, fig and carob trees, and forage for rosemary, thyme and lavender along the way.

We finish up on a headland where the Moors used to live many centuries ago. During the Catalan invasion in 1235, the Moors that didn’t want to convert to Catholicism escaped across the island. They found this beautiful spot to live and built a whole town of 1000 people. They survived off the land and springs which they dug on the valley floor.

On this walk we also see the ‘great wall of Ibiza’, which stretches across the headland. Originally 5m tall with lookout towers, a small portion still survives today. From this vantage point, 300m above sea level, we can enjoy stunning views across the water. You can see as far as mainland Spain on a sunny day!

CAN CIRES LUNCH AFTER THE WALK
We would like to have lunch together after the walk at Restaurant Can Cires in the village of San Mateu. Please let us know before 27th December if you would like to join for lunch, since we have to make a reservation. You can book your walk & lunch for €35 or only join for the walk for €10.
