Event Details

Today at summer solstice the sun reaches its northernmost position and we experience the longest day and shortest night of the year.

It is the astonomical beginning of summer and we will be looking at the summer triangle in the east: the brightest stars of Lyra, Swan and Eagle!  In the west the Lion is setting, followed by Virgo.  The brightest light is planet Venus!

Etienne will start with lots of information about the milky way, the universe, what´s a star, what´s a planet, our solar system and light years. Assisted by a laser pointer we then do our “sky walk”, naming all constellations, stars, planets and zodiac signs.  You will learn to find the big Dipper and the North Star!

Summer solstice is celebrated all over the world, here in Spain it will be on the day of San Juan, the 24th of June, when fires are lit and people jump over them to be purified and leave bad spirits (or habits) behind.

We will walk into the valley of Santa Agnes on an even road and a dirt road.

Please bring a mat or cushion to sit on and a torch, as we are walking in the dark.
